Shri.Upasani Maharaj (1870-1941), was born Kashinath Govind Upasani Shastri
in Satana village near Nasik-Maharashtra, had received God-realization from Sai Baba of Shirdi.
On 27th June 1911, at the age of 41 years,Kashinath had come to Shirdi and met Sai Baba for the very First Time.
As soon as he had entered Dwarakamai,Baba had told him, "Son I know you for the past seven births. If you stay at Shirdi, you will achieve your goal in life.Because of your good deeds in your previous birth, you achieved spiritual progress. If you stay here for some time with a stable mind you will reach a higher state." So saying Baba had blessed him.
Thus, Kashinath stayed on for 4 years under Sai Baba's discipleship at the Khandoba Mandir-Shirdi.
On Gurupurnima-1913, Sai Baba installed Kashinath as a Guru and henceforth, he was referred to as Upasni Maharaj.
Gradually, Sai Baba would send His devotees who came for his Darshan,to also have Upasni Maharaj's Darshan at the Khandoba temple.
In July 1914, at the end of the four years of his discipleship, Upasni Baba left Shirdi, but only to return to Shirdi to meet Sai Baba in 1915 and 1916 for about two to three months each time.
In 1917, he ultimately settled in Sakuri -Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra, just 5 kms from Shirdi
and as a Sadguru, he started an Ashram "Shri Upasani Kanyakumari Sthan" - an institution for
Bramhacharin (unmarried) girls to learn Sanskrit (language), Vedas and perform puja and yajnas.
In 1918, when Shirdi Sai Baba left His physical form,Upasni Maharaj was in charge of Baba's last rites as His chief disciple.
He also composed the famous "Shri Sainath Mahimna Stotra" (hymn) in Sanskrit. And finally in the early hours of 24th December`1941, Upasni Maharaj too attained Samadhi.
